We are in need of volunteers for our Mentoring Program at the Ackley Elementary. This program pairs up elementary students with a positive role model who comes in weekly to meet with the student they are assigned to. During that time they establish a relationship with them, teach them a new game or skill, help support them with school work, be a champion for them, and learn from them. Our need for mentoring is increasing as we continue to support students socially, emotionally and academically. If you are interested in this rewarding opportunity, contact Molly Forgy at mforgy@agwsr.org or 641-847-2611.

This weekend is the Day of the Dead! It is a time to celebrate the memories of people who have passed away. Spanish II students made Ofrendas for a friend, family member or celebrity who has died.
Paul Walker, Princess Diana, and John Candy were among the celebrities remembered and several students chose to celebrate a brother, grandpa or other family member!

🎉 MS Honor Roll Recognition – First Quarter! 🎉

We are thrilled to celebrate our 5th–8th grade students for their outstanding academic achievements! This year, over 50% of our student body earned Honor Roll, up from just over 30% in the first quarter last year.

A special shout-out to these scholars for demonstrating strong work habits, intentional study routines, and taking ownership of monitoring their grades.

We also want to thank our dedicated staff for supporting students through weekly grade checks, teaching organizational habits, planning for improvement, and providing the resources needed for success. And thank you to our parents for engaging with students about their progress: your conversations about what’s going well and areas to improve make a huge difference.

It takes a village and we appreciate the partnership. Keep up the amazing work! 🌟

Kayden and Ki completed the Character Strong Powered Up Calm Unit in Mrs. Meyer's class recently. We're working on turning unhelpful thoughts into helpful thoughts, asking adults for help, using different breathing, and muscle relaxation strategies to calm ourselves down when escalated. Recognizing the increasing amount of time we spend on digital devices, the AGWSR Elementary is challenging students and educators to ask critical questions before engaging with digital tools. We want to be proactive by ensuring that technology is used appropriately and in moderation, encouraging thoughtful screen time throughout the day.

Is this activity intended for educational purposes or leisure?
Does this technology foster collaboration or creativity?
Can the task be accomplished more effectively without a device?
Does the use of a device hinder face-to-face conversations for that activity?

By reflecting on these questions, students can develop a more mindful relationship with technology. To support this, we are collecting “Distraction-Free Donations” to provide fun, hands-on alternatives to ipads during the school day.

Distraction-Free Donations:
Play-doh and plastic tools
Board games
Decks of cards
Card Games(UNO, Go fish, Crazy 8’s, Old Maid)
Word searches
Seek and Finds
Small Lego kits
Puzzles(25pcs to 200pcs)
Puzzle Mats
Rubik’s cube
Spirographs
How to Books
Crafts- ex…latch hook, bracelets, etc..
Paint by number
Large wall colorsheet
Magna tiles
Lincoln Logs
Mini White Boards
Etch A Sketch
Magna Doodle

We welcome both new or used…so if you are cleaning out a game or craft closet, send them our way. Thanks in advance for helping us with this challenge.

In Cougars' Critical Thinking, kindergarteners worked on helping their butterflies camouflage in the classroom to avoid being eaten by the bird. Thanks to Mrs. Oldenburger and Mrs. Meyer who played the bird in each room. We won't say which bird won, but it did get a little competitive, and the kiddos enjoyed seeing if their butterfly survived or not.
