On Monday the AGWSR FFA Chapter took 67 students to Ames for our annual fall field trip. Members enjoyed touring the Iowa State Creamery where they learned about the pasteurization process in Iowa's dairy products. Members also learned about the preservation process that extends the shelf-life and eliminates pathogens. Students gained insight on the history and sales background of the ISU Creamery. After touring the ISU Creamery, students toured Jack Trice Stadium where AGWSR FFA Alumni, Michael Young, showed students the fertilization, irrigation, and turf management process of the stadium. To end the day, members finished with pizza and bowling as a chapter at Perfect Games. Such a fun and educational day spent together as an FFA Chapter!

Last week on Thursday 24 AGWSR FFA members participated in the North Central Districts Soils Contest. Sophomore FFA member Haley Smith placed 1st out of 376 total participants. This is a huge achievement and we are so proud of her! We also had a team of Haley Smith, Brady Abbas, Carli Lyon, and Kaylee Hartkopp place 3rd as a team overall and Adie Hovey, Kael Dodd, Colton Diamond, and Carlie Hoodjer place 6th as a team. Congratulations to all of these FFA members on your accomplishments!

We are in need of volunteers for our Mentoring Program at the Ackley Elementary. This program pairs up elementary students with a positive role model who comes in weekly to meet with the student they are assigned to. During that time they establish a relationship with them, teach them a new game or skill, help support them with school work, be a champion for them, and learn from them. Our need for mentoring is increasing as we continue to support students socially, emotionally and academically. If you are interested in this rewarding opportunity, contact Molly Forgy at mforgy@agwsr.org or 641-847-2611.
